The long-term ramifications of the lives and deeds of some of the women of Manchester.

As early as the 1500’s Manchester had powerful women who traded in textiles, not easy in a man’s world and when Manchester’s first millionaire died in 1888 his wife, through her efforts  to create a fitting memorial for him, gave Manchester one of the world’s most important libraries.

Annie Horniman of the ‘Tea’ family left her mark on Manchester and those most famous suffragettes the Pankhursts were associated with another of Manchester’s landmarks the former Free Trade Hall.
